Puppies 1 and 2
Well, at 10:46pm Rally let out a quite a scream and then continued to scream with each contraction until out popped puppy number 1. Puppy 1 is a red boy and no sooner did I get him cleaned and weighed, 9 oz, then out popped number 2. Didn't really see the clock but I think it was 10:51pm or so. Puppy 2 is a black boy, 10 oz. Didn't even get to finish this and out pops puppy 3 at 11:31pm, red girl, 10 oz. Now we wait for Puppy 4 to make its debut.

Any Time Now

We are waiting and watching to see if Rally will have her pups soon. We have fresh batteries in the camera and have gathered everything we need so it is easy to find. Rally feels like she is ready pop, she is gigantic. It looks like she has lots of milk. So we keep waiting and watching. Hopefully she will not keep us all in suspense for much longer.

Almost Ready

Rally had her x-ray today. We saw four skulls and four spines. They are all lined up and facing the same direction. The vets wanted another look at their heartbeats so we also had an ultrasound. You can see in the picture that the one puppy that cooperated and didn't squirm and kick the whole time has a nice strong heartbeat.

We have reached the point where Rally could whelp any day now. We are watching her closely for signs that she is getting ready. She looks like she is starting to get milk. She sleeps in the "beached whale" position almost all the time now, mostly because she can not curl up around her gigantic belly. We have seen the puppies kick and we can feel then moving around in the mornings and evenings. Every evening she scouts out potential whelping spots. So far the whelping pen is actally winning as the better place but she still checks every night for new ones. We go for x-rays tomorrow so there will be more to post then.

Orca?
Rally continues to grow around the middle. She is now 23 inches around. The really cool thing is that we can feel the pups moving around. They seem to be most active from 7-9am and then again from 5-7pm. At least that is when we feel the most movement. She lays mostly in the "beached whale" position now. She is also more restless in the evenings, trying to get comfortable. She is still perfectly capable of getting into as much trouble as she likes and doesn't let her big belly stop her in her search for mischief.

Rally is definately getting rounder by the day. After reading about other people measuring their girls' pregnant bellies I decided to measure Rally's. We are at Week 7 and she is 22.5 inches around. She is getting more protective of her treats. Poor Nicky doesn't understand why she is so moody and won't play with him. He is beginning to mope.

The Whelping Box
We set-up the whelping box last night. Many thanks to Pat Fragassi for lending us hers. It is really nice, plenty of room. Everyone had to check it out once it was up. As you can see, our cat Spot monopolized it at first. Rally tried it out too but wouldn't wait around for her picture to be taken. Even Nicky gave it a try so I guess it has been household approved as an OK thing.

Getting Round

Rally is really starting to look pregnant. Her middle is starting to get quite round. Poor girl is having a hard time getting comfortable when she sleeps. She is much more restless at night and asks to go out at least once in the middle of night, taking the opportunity to snack on what ever cat kibbles are left in their bowls. She is still ultra-cuddly.

Rally is starting to look a little thicker around the middle though it doesn't show in the photo. She has been looking for the warmest places to nap and you can pretty much expect to find her where ever it is warmest in the house. She is also craving veggies. She thinks carrots are just the bestest treats this week. Other than acting like she is starving all the time she is acting pretty much like herself.

Ultrasound
Today was Rally's ultrasound. It was hard to wait until 4:30pm and we arrived about 15 minutes early for our appointment. Everyone at the vet office was equally excited about the ultrasound so we all crowded around to watch. Rally was not pleased to have to lay in the funny foam pillow that kept her properly positioned on her back but she did good. We were able to see two puppies at a time and the vet thinks there are four puppies two puppies on each side. It was very exciting especially when we got to hear the puppy heartbeats.
